WHAT DOES A TAXI COST

What are the rates for a taxi? The costs for a ride with a street taxi depend on: the starting rate, the distance and the duration of the ride. A maximum rate applies to all these components. This rate prevents you as a customer from having to pay too much.
Rates for use of a taxi A taxi company or driver determines the rates themselves. He must state this on the rate card in the taxi. The rates may not exceed the maximum rates. Table: maximum taxi rates (as of 1 January 2024)
Type of taxi transport Maximum starting rate Maximum kilometer rate Maximum time rate (per minute)
Passenger car (maximum 4 persons) € 4,02 € 2,96 € 0,49
Van (5 to 8 people) € 8,17 € 3,72 € 0,55
Calculation example of the costs of a taxi ride Suppose you make a 7-kilometre journey that takes 15 minutes. If the taxi company applied the maximum rates, this journey would cost:

- initial fee € 4.02
- kilometer rate 7 x € 2.96 = € 20.72
- time rate 15 x € 0.49 = 7,35

In total, that's € 32.09
Delay during the taxi ride
The costs of a delay during the taxi ride are fairly divided between the taxi company and the customer. So, if you get stuck in traffic, you will have to pay more. If the ride goes very quickly, then you will actually save money.

Taxi waiting rate
The driver can charge a waiting rate if you have agreed to this before the taxi ride has started. The waiting rate applies, for example, if the taxi driver has to wait because the passenger's meeting is running late. The waiting rate is €55.35 per hour.

Comparing taxi costs
The rates are listed on a fare card, which is placed behind one of the taxi's windows. The card must be easily readable, both on the inside and outside of the taxi. This allows you to compare the costs of the taxis.

Fixed fare
A taxi driver may offer you a fixed fare. He may also charge a surcharge for additional services. For example, for carrying your luggage. You must agree to the fixed fare or surcharge before the taxi ride begins.
